Getting started with your Interrail mobile Pass

Eurail has been renamed to Interrail, bringing travellers worldwide together under one global brand and one Pass, no matter what their residency is.

If you're new to travelling with an Interrail mobile Pass, getting started may feel unfamiliar. Donโ€™t worryโ€”we've put together a simple step-by-step guide to help you through the process, from activating your Pass to boarding your first train.

The process to start using your Interrail Pass follows Interrail's official requirements, carefully designed to ensure a smooth and enjoyable travel experience

A rail Pass can only be linked to one trip in My Trip. If you are planning multiple journeys, add all of them to the one trip by creating under 'My Trip'.


Before you travel

Make sure you:

  • Have installed the Rail Planner app
  • Have your Pass number and last name (from your confirmation email)
  • Know that your Pass must be activated before boarding your first train

Device compatibility

The Interrail Rail Planner app is compatible with most smartphones.

To use a mobile Pass, customers need:

  • An Apple iPhone running iOS 16.0 or later, or
  • An Android phone running Android 6.0 or later.

Important: The mobile Pass is not supported on tablets or computers and can only be used through the Rail Planner app on a compatible smartphone.


Good to know

  • Your mobile Pass is your ticketโ€”it will generate a QR code in the app
  • You donโ€™t always need internet access to show your ticket, but you will need it to set up and manage your journeys
  • Some trains require seat reservations in addition to your Pass
  • If you no longer plan to travel, you may need to deactivate your Interrail mobile Pass to remain eligible for a refund. For steps, see " How to Deactivate Your Interrail Mobile Pass.โ€
