Overview

The Bernina Express is Switzerland's other iconic scenic route, running Chur → St. Moritz → Pontresina → Alp Grüm → Poschiavo → Tirano (Italy).

Luggage

Luggage is permitted onboard the Bernina Express; however, storage space is limited. To ensure the comfort and safety of all passengers, we recommend travelling with hand luggage whenever possible.

A luggage delivery service is also available, which can transport luggage from station to station or provide door-to-door delivery.

Seat reservations & boarding

Panoramic coaches require a seat reservation, which must be booked in addition to the ticket if it is not already included.

Regular non-panoramic coaches do not require a seat reservation. Passengers can travel with a valid ticket without booking a specific seat.

Pet policy

Dogs and other pets are generally permitted on the Bernina Express, subject to the applicable Swiss and Italian railway rules. Small pets transported in a suitable carrier may travel free of charge when the carrier can be placed under the seat or in the designated luggage area. Larger dogs may require a separate ticket and must be kept on a leash; depending on the service and route, a muzzle may also be required.

Pets should not occupy a passenger seat. For panoramic coaches, additional conditions or charges may apply, so passengers travelling with pets should check the applicable railway rules before departure.

Food preference

Food and drink availability can vary depending on the train service and route. Rail Europe recommends checking the facilities available for the specific Bernina Express service before travelling.

Passengers with specific dietary requirements or food preferences should plan ahead and check whether suitable food options are available for their journey. Availability of specific dietary meals cannot be guaranteed unless explicitly shown during the booking process.
