How to find out my train number?
Overview
Your train number is a unique identifier assigned to your scheduled train service. It helps you locate the correct train on station departure boards and verify that you are boarding the right service.
The location of the train number varies depending on the rail operator and ticket type. On most European train tickets, they are displayed as a Train, Train No., Service, or Train Number field.
Where can I find my train number?
You can find your train number in one of the following places:
1. On your train ticket (Recommended)
For most rail operators, the train number is printed on the ticket alongside your journey details, such as:
- Departure and arrival stations
- Departure time
- Coach and seat number (if applicable)
- Train or Train No. (for example: TGV 9241, ICE 548)
The train number is usually a combination of the train type and a numeric service number.
Example: If your ticket shows ICE 548, your train number is 548.
2. In your Rail Europe booking
If your mobile ticket does not display the train number, check the following:
- Your booking confirmation email.
These usually display the train details, including the scheduled train number.
3. Why do I need the train number?
The train number helps you:
- Find your train on the station departure boards.
- Confirm you are boarding the correct train.
- Verify your service if multiple trains depart for the same destination around the same time.

4. Does every ticket include a train number?
