Tickets for Travel Within the City
Rail Europe specializes in booking long-distance and intercity train travel across Europe. However, tickets for local or intra-city transportation are not available through Rail Europe.
What Does This Mean?
If your journey involves travel within the same city, such tickets cannot be booked via Rail Europe. These routes are typically operated by local transport networks such as metro, suburban trains, trams, or buses.
Examples of Intra-City Travel
- Travel between major stations within the same city, such as:
- London Paddington to King’s Cross Station
- Transfers within Paris, such as:
- Gare Montparnasse to Val d’Europe
These journeys are considered local transport and are managed by city transit authorities.
How to Book Local Transport
For travel within a city, customers are advised to:
- Purchase tickets directly from local transport providers (metro, RER, bus, tram, etc.)
- Use ticket machines or counters available at stations
- Check official city transport websites or mobile apps
Important Note:
If your itinerary includes both intercity travel and local transfers, only the intercity portion can be booked through Rail Europe. Local connections must be arranged separately.
FAQ
1. Can we book any trip within the same city via Rail Europe?
No. Rail Europe does not support bookings for intra-city or local transportation.
2. How do we identify if a route is local transport?
If both the departure and arrival points are within the same city (e.g., London Paddington to King’s Cross Station), it is considered local transport.
3. What should we advise clients in such cases?
Inform clients that they will need to purchase these tickets locally via metro/train stations, ticket machines, or official city transport apps.
4. Can suburban or regional trains within a city be booked?
No. Even if trains are involved (e.g., RER in Paris), if the journey is within the city or suburban zone, it cannot be booked via Rail Europe.
5. What if the client’s journey includes both local and intercity travel?
Only the intercity portion can be booked through Rail Europe. Clients must arrange the local segment separately.
6. Why is this not available on Rail Europe?
Rail Europe focuses on long-distance and cross-border rail services. Local transport systems are managed independently by city authorities and are not part of Rail Europe’s booking network.
