Rail Europe Trip Protection

At Rail Europe, we offer an optional protection plan that you can add to Non-Flexible and/or Semi-Flexible tickets to safeguard your trip from unexpected events. Our two protection plans are:

  • Essential Protection
  • Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) Protection

Below, you will find the Terms & Conditions for each plan. Note that the fee for the Rail protection product is non-refundable.

How travel protection works

The protection plans are available for a fee calculated as a percentage of the total price of all eligible tickets.

Eligible tickets include Non-Flexible and the Semi-Flexible tickets. If your booking contains both eligible and non-eligible tickets, the Rail Protection Product will only apply to the eligible tickets.

Adding trip protection to your booking

You can add protection to Non-Flexible and Semi-Flexible tickets during checkout by following these steps:

  1. Under the ‘Trip Protection’ section, choose the plan that best suits your travel needs.
  2. Select the plan by clicking the box next to ‘Essential Protection’ or ‘Cancel For Any Reason’. 
  3. Review the details by clicking ‘Terms & Conditions’ under each option.
  4. Click ‘Add’ to include the protection in your booking.
  5. To change your selection, click ‘Remove Protection’ and select a different plan.
  6. Proceed by entering your payment details and clicking ‘Pay now.’
  7. Once purchased, you can access the details of your protection plan under ‘ Manage Your Booking.’

Making a claim

If you need to request a refund for a ticket covered by your protection plan, follow these steps:

Essential Protection

To make a claim under the Essential Protection plan:

  • Access the claim form here.
  • You will be redirected to the protection plan provider’s portal.
  • Provide the necessary details, including your booking reference, email address and other relevant information. You will also need to provide your bank details to receive your refund.
  • Submit proof of cancellation.
  • The protection plan provider will manage the refund process.

Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) Protection

To make a claim under the CFAR plan:

  1. Access the claim form here.
  2. Provide the necessary details, including your booking reference, email address and other relevant information. You will also need to provide your bank details to receive your refund.
  3. Submit the form—no proof of cancellation is required.
  4.  Access and complete the claim form up to 3 hours before booking departure.

Please note that partial refunds are not available for bookings covered by Essential Protection or Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) Protection.
