Italian Regional train Mandatory check in

Trenitalia has incorporated a mandatory CHECK IN policy for Regional Train ticket holders. As a result, any regional train tickets specifying "NOT VALID TO TRAVEL" will require a CHECK IN to be performed which would be a process to validate the tickets for usage.

We inform you hereby that, as from September 21st 2024, check-in to travel on board Regional trains with the Regional Digital Ticket (BDR) will be automated.

You will no longer be required to check- in manually before train departure. The process will be automated.

It means that at the scheduled departure time (indicated on the ticket), if there are no date/time changes carried out by yourself, the ticket will be activated automatically.

From the moment of activation, it is no longer possible to carry out departure time/date changes.

The flexibility of changing the departure time/date countless times is therefore guaranteed, but this operation must always be carried out before the automatic activation of the ticket.

Please find here below a summary concerning the use of the Regional Digital Ticket (BDR):

  •      New: ticket activation via check-in will be done automatically by Trenitalia's systems at the departure time indicated on your Regional train ticket.
  •        You can make an unlimited number of date/time changes until Midnight on the day before the train departure date.
  •        On the day of travel, you can make an unlimited number of changes to the departure time until the time of automatic activation departure time indicated on the digital ticket.

When requested, you must show on board the train the QR Code generated by Trenitalia system, as already provided for the Regional Digital Ticket (BDR).

Please note that the Regional Digital Ticket (BDR) is nominative, personal and non-transferable to other passengers.
