Renfe luggage security check

Renfe, the Spanish rail operator, often scan your luggage before boarding the train, especially if you are travelling through a major rail terminal. Please be aware that any dangerous or prohibited items may be confiscated. The official advice from Renfe states:

  • "Luggage is considered to be any hand-carried item that contains clothing and articles for personal or professional use belonging to the passenger which does not violate the security provisions established in laws and regulations or represent a hazard or nuisance to other passengers."
  • For safety reasons from 12 December 2023 onwards, passengers will not be allowed to board the train with electric scooters, unicycles or similar vehicles. This does not apply to vehicles for people with reduced mobility or to electric bicycles.
