Engineering works are taking place in Italy. Major disruptions are listed below. You can also check the status of a train online using Trenitalia's departure board, Trenitalia's traffic update page and Italo's departure board.

Current disruptions

Trenitalia's Disruption 08th – 9th September:

Due to a national strike scheduled from 3 a.m. of September 8th 2024 to 2 a.m. of September 9th, possible disruption and/or cancellations of Trenitalia's trains are expected.

The effects of disruptions may also affect the services running before and after the end of the strike.

We remind you:

  • Before travelling, you can check the list of guaranteed Long Haul and Regional trains available at this link,
  • The status of the train can be checked by you on ViaggiaTreno website,
  • that information on connections and services will be provided also at ticket offices of Italian railway stations,
  • that in case your train is cancelled, you can ask for full refund applying at this link.

Italo Strike (6th September - 9th September) 

I would like to inform you that a 24-hour strike has been announced, starting on September 8th at 3:00 am and ending on September 9th at 2:00 am.

Please note that ONLY the guaranteed trains are published on the list. Trains not listed that fall within the strike period are considered not guaranteed.

*Only trains marked as "GARANTITO" (GUARANTEED) are guaranteed. Trains that are not listed or do not have the "GARANTITO" label may be affected by the strike.

High-speed lines Milan - Bologna and Florence - Rome: from 12 to 25 August, infrastructure maintenance works on the line:

From Monday 12th to Sunday 18th August, due to infrastructure maintenance work on the Milan - Bologna AV line, circulation is suspended between Castelfranco nell'Emilia and Fidenza.
Freccia trains on the Milan - Bologna route increase travel times up to 60 minutes.

From Monday 19th to Friday 25th August, due to slowdowns on the Milan - Bologna high-speed line, Freccia trains will increase travel times by up to 20 minutes.

From Monday 12 to Friday 23 August, on the Direttissima Florence - Rome line due to waterproofing works on the Paglia viaduct, circulation is suspended between Chiusi and Orvieto.
Freccia, Intercity and Intercity Notte trains on the Florence - Rome route increase travel times by up to 40 minutes.

On Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 August, due to slowdowns on the Direttissima Florence - Rome route, the Freccia, Intercity and Intercity Notte trains will increase travel times by up to 10 minutes.

Milan - Venice line: circulation suspended between Verona Porta Nuova and Vicenza from 31 July to 20 August for infrastructure improvement works

From Wednesday 31 July to Tuesday 20 August, due to infrastructure improvement works at Vicenza station, circulation is suspended between Verona Porta Nuova and Vicenza.

Frecce, Eurocity and Euronight trains are diverted between Verona and Padua via Bologna with an increase in travel times of up to 120 minutes.

From Wednesday 31 July to Tuesday 20 August, due to infrastructure improvement works at Vicenza station, circulation is suspended between Verona Porta Nuova and Vicenza.

Frecce, Eurocity and Euronight trains are diverted between Verona and Padua via Bologna with an increase in travel times of up to 120 minutes.

MILANO-VENEZIA LINE: RFI’s works from July 31, 2024 to August 26, 2024

Due to works on the Milan-Venice line, Railway Infrastructure Manager has established the interruption of railway traffic between Vicenza and Verona from July 31 to August 20, 2024.
All trains, including Italo trains, will change their route and are subject to time variations of up to 120’.
Italo train schedules have been planned with changes in departure and/or arrival and the sales systems are updated.

From August 21 to 26, 2024, the Railway Infrastructure Manager has established the resumption of the railway traffic between Vicenza and Verona at reduced speed along the concerned section.
All trains, including Italo trains, are subject to time variations of up to 25'.
Italo train schedules have been planned with changes in departure and/or arrival and the sales systems are updated.

MILANO-ROMA LINE: RFI’s works from August 12, 2024 to August 25, 2024

The Railway Infrastructure Manager has established the closure of the Milano-Bologna line and the Firenze-Roma line from 12 August to 18 August, due to infrastructure works.
From 19 to 23 August, the Milano-Bologna line will be resumed with speed restrictions, while the Florence-Rome line will remain interrupted.
On 24 and 25 August, the traffic will also resume on the Firenze-Roma line with speed restrictions.

All trains, including Italo trains, change their route and are subject to time variations.
Italo train schedules have been planned with changes in departure and/or arrival and the sales systems are updated.

LINE MILANO-VENEZIA: RFI’s works on August 20 and 21, 2024

Due to works on the Milano-Venezia line established by the Railway Infrastructure Manager, on August 20 and 21, 2024, some Italo trains have been rescheduled and partially cancelled:
• Italo 8968, on August 20, 2024, is cancelled from Verona Porta Nuova to Brescia.
• Italo 8992, on August 20, 2024, is cancelled from Padova to Brescia and arrives in Milano C.le station at 21.35.

  • Italo 8951, on August 21, 2024, is cancelled from Brescia to Verona Porta Nuova.

    Salerno - Paola line: circulation slowed down from 10 July after the derailment of a freight train on 9 July

    This not a strike but ongoing disruption due to derailment of Freight train on 9 th July.

    Some trains are cancelled, some will run with delayed schedule, and since this disruption on the Salerno - Paola line, impacted trains will be both – Italo and Trenitalia.

    SALERNO-REGGIO CALABRIA LINE: : Rail traffic suspension between Agropoli and Sapri from July 22, 2024 to July 26, 2024

    Due to an inconvenience to a freight train on Salerno-Reggio Calabria line, the Railway Infrastructure Manager will suspended the rail traffic between Agropoli and Sapri, from 22.00 on 22 July 2024, to 6.00 on 26 July 2024. Some Italo trains have been rescheduled and partially cancelled.

    LINE SALERNO-REGGIO CALABRIA: RFI’s works, from Monday to Thursday, from April 15, 2024 to July 29, 2024

    Due to works on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria line established by the Railway Infrastructure Manager, from Monday to Thursday, from April 15, 2024 to July 29, 2024, Italo 8143 has been rescheduled.

    LINE VENEZIA-MILANO: RFI’s works from July 20, 2024 to July 30, 2024

    Due to works on the Venezia-Milano line established by the Railway Infrastructure Manager, from July 20, 2024, to July 30, 2024 some trains have been rescheduled.

    We inform you that,  due to a national strike scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 pm. of April 11th 2024, disruption and/or cancellations of Trenitalia's trains are expected.

    National strike - March 23th-24th 2024

    We inform you that,  due to a National strike scheduled from 9 p.m. of March 23th to 9 p.m. of  March 24th, disruption and/or cancellations of Trenitalia's trains are expected. The effects of disruptions may also affect the services running just after the end of the strike.

    As for Regional trains, essential connections will run during peak hours (06.00 a.m. to 09.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m.).

    • that the status of the train can be checked by yourself on ViaggiaTreno website. Information on connections and services will be provided also at ticket offices available railway stations,

    Strike Notification 23 - 24 March 2024 - Italo Trains

    Please note that a 24-hour strike has been proclaimed from 9.00 pm March 23th to 9.00 pm March 24th.

    The list of guaranteed trains is published on Italo web site List of guaranteed trains

    ONLY GUARANTEED ones are published, trains not on the list that fall into the strike range are considered not guaranteed.

    +39 0689371892 (abroad) or 060708 (from Italy)  will be active from 3.00 pm on Thursday March 21 st until the end of service on Sunday March 24th .

    In the event of a real cancellation, you can choose to move the journey on a train immediately previous or next or a full refund.

    CASERTA-FOGGIA LINE: RAIL TRAFFIC INTERRUPTION FROM BENEVENTO TO ARIANO IRPINO (Italo trains):

    There is disruption due Rail traffic interruption from 15th March - 19th March 2024 and the below Italo trains are cancelled. 

    From the 12th March the rail traffic is interrupted between the station of Ariano Irpino and Benevento as ordered by the Infrastructure Manager for technical inspection along the line.

    For the following trains: 9928, 9952, 9915 and 9939 for days of the 15th, 16th, and 17th March 2024, a shuttle bus service is active between Foggia and Benevento stations and vice versa.

    Italo trains 8140 and 8141 are cancelled on the 15th, 16th, 17th , 18thand 19th  March 2024. 

    Italo trains 9928, 9952, 9915 and 9939 are cancelled on the 18thand 19th  March 2024 between Bari and Benevento. More details on the following Link:

    CASERTA-FOGGIA LINE: RAIL TRAFFIC INTERRUPTION FROM BENEVENTO TO ARIANO IRPINO

    Passengers with reservations on trains 9928, 9952, 9915 and 9939 who travel on the route where rail circulation is interrupted can contact Pronto Italo on +39 060708 before the scheduled departure time of their train for information, assistance, refunds or to agree on an alternative travel.

    Passengers with reservations on trains 8140, 8141 can contact Pronto Italo on +39 060708 before the scheduled departure time of their train for information, assistance, refunds or to agree on an alternative travel within 11.00 pm on the scheduled departure date.     What to do if you experience a delay

    Please speak to staff on the train or at the station if you are delayed. They will have the most up to date information and can tell you what to do. Also, ask the staff to stamp your ticket with proof of delay. This will make it easier for you to travel on later trains.

    Keep all of your tickets until you return home. They can be used to submit a claim to the rail operator if you incur any unavoidable additional costs (new tickets, taxis).

    If you have tickets for onward travel on trains which are scheduled to run as normal, refunds and exchanges are only permitted as per fare conditions.
